India - Snapshot

Often described as a subcontinent rather than a country, India well deserves this reputation, certainly from the viewpoint of the amazing diversity of habitat types and therefore the amazing variety of wildlife and birds that can be found there.

It is noteworthy to mention that India is one of the most "nature-friendly" countries in the world. The Hindu religion entails great respect for all life forms and thus wildlife there does not face the unrelenting pressures of hunting, habitat destruction and other such modern survival challenges as in many other parts of the world.

What does that mean for birders ?. Well, it means that if you go to India, you will see a lot of birds both in terms of variety and sheer numbers, which is very welcome news to us birders.
